The following are the Exciting Current Groups which get together regularly on a monthly basis, or weekly for the outdoor sports.  Where possible, Members take turns Hosting their Group in their homes or in an outdoor setting.

We look forward to you joining Probus Club of Muskoka North in Huntsville, and having you Participate in a Group, or two, which will meet your needs.

BID EUCHRE

If you enjoy Euchre, you will really like Bid Euchre.  There is no kitty, and the power to determine trump is literally in your hands.  Players bid to declare how many tricks they think they can take.  After playing a few hands, most players are delighted at the challenge that Bid Euchre presents. So try your hand on the 3rd Monday of each Month at 1:30 p.m.

BOOK GROUP

Do you love books?  Our Group is a great spot for Bonding, Making Friends & Sharing different perspectives as we discuss our Pick Of The Month.  As we rotate to Member’s homes, the 3rd Thursday of each Month at 1:30 p.m., it gives us a break amidst the madness of life. The Book is just a great excuse to get together.

  • September 21st: We will be discussing books by Author Colleen Hoover
  • October 19th: "Threads from the Loom of Time" by Dorothy L Thompson
COMMUNITY OUTINGS

Tired of going to a function alone or even worst not even going at all.  Don’t miss out on all the wonderful activities happening in Huntsville and around Muskoka, particularly throughout the Summer, like the theatre, markets, craft fairs, concerts, art exhibits, and so much more.  Here is your opportunity to meet up with other Members who would also like to share in the fun.

DINING OUT

Dine Out at one of Muskoka’s Fine Dining Establishments and enjoy gastronomic delights with the fellowship of Good Friends.  Registration is open to all Probus II members, but on a first come first served basis as space is limited.  At times tickets are sold which includes your dinner, taxes and gratuity, with beverages extra. At other times it's Pay-As-You-Go, your choice, your credit card.

DUPLICATE BRIDGE

Duplicate bridge is the most widely used variation of contract bridge. The hands are kept as dealt and played by different players. In this way, every hand, whether strong or weak, is played in competition with others playing the identical cards. The object of play is not to amass the largest number of points, but rather to bid and play the hands better than all the other pairs who play them.  Thus, it is immaterial whether one holds good or bad cards.  We play the 3rd Thursday of the Month at 1:30.

EUCHRE GROUP

Look forward to exercising our brains, honing our social skills and being tempted with coffee and goodies!!  The Group meets for a fun afternoon, in member's homes, on the last Wednesday of each month at 1:30 p.m.  A Partner and Experience is not required.  We hope you will join us for a good game of cards and total enjoyment.

GENEALOGY

Collaborating with others is one of the most cherished aspects of genealogy. While it’s entirely possible to make great progress conducting your family history research completely on your own, working and sharing with like-minded folks can be both helpful and a whole lot of fun.  We meet at the Huntsville Public Library on the 3rd Wednesday of each Month at 1:30 p.m., where you will have Free access to Ancestry.com and other Search programmes.

HIKING GROUP

Put on your good, sturdy hiking boots (maybe bring your bug jacket) and lets tackle the beautiful trails Muskoka has to offer.  We generally hike for 1-2 hours every Monday morning, on a variety of terrains, in a variety of locations.  The Group meets from May to end of June and starts again for September and October.

LUNCH BUNCH

Get Together for a relaxed, informal lunch with your Probus Friends on the 2nd Tuesday of every Month. Members take turns in making arrangements with a restaurant of their choice.  Generally, each participant selects their own lunch from the menu provided and pays for the meal and gratuity individually.

MANAGEMENT TEAM MEETING

The Management Team meets on the 4th Monday of every month.  During the meeting, the team addresses member feedback, upcoming plans, and new ways to enhance our club.

Members, if you are interested in being a part of the Management Team, please reach out to our President.

MEXICAN TRAIN

Mexican Train is a modern version of Dominoes. The object is for a player to play all the tiles from their hand onto one or more chains “trains”, emanating from a central hub "station" and to have the lowest score by getting rid of as many dominoes as possible.  Because of its simplicity and interaction, it can be played by nearly anyone, and we play the 1st Tuesday each Month at 1:30.

NEEDLES & HOOKS

The name, “Needles & Hooks”,  encompasses what we actually do. Knitting, crocheting, sewing, weaving, needlepoint, crewelwork, embroidery, rug hooking . . . the list goes on.  If it involves a needle and/or hook, it will fit here, on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 1:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome and we hope we can help each other either learning new skills or solving problems that we might have with old ones.

PADDLING GROUP

Join a group of experienced Canoers & Kyakers challenge Muskoka waters, every Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. from mid May to mid October, weather permitting.  Excursions are planned throughout the region by group members, each lasting 2½ -3 hours on area lakes and rivers. Remember it’s BYOBBring Your Own Boat.  Also your own Equipment and Transportation.

PHOTOGRAPHY GROUP

A place for Photographers of any skill level to learn, discover creative skill sets, practice new techniques and present their spectacular photos based on a theme previously decided upon. Join us on the 2nd Monday of each Month at 1:30 p.m., perhaps for a photographic field trip to discover awesome local scenery or the microscopic details of plants and insects.

  • September - "Moods"
  • October - "Harvest Time"
ROUND ROBIN BRIDGE

Register with a Partner, to be incorporated into a Fall or Spring Schedule.  Each team plays against all other teams, accumulating points per game.  At year end, the winning team with the most points is announced, at a Potluck lunch.

SNOW SPORTS

Come take part in some winter sports activities. The group meets every Monday at 10:00 a.m. when snow levels allow (usually Dec - March). Some of us snowshoe, some of us cross-country ski and occasionally there’s a chance to ice skate at Arrowhead Provincial Park. We are meeting approximately every other week at Arrowhead Park which has a wonderful visitors’ centre with fireplace for a picnic lunch after our exercise. Other locations are included on alternate weeks so please make sure your name is on the list if you want to be kept up on what’s happening!!

SOCIAL COMMITTEE MEETING

On the first Thursday of every month the Social Committee gathers to plan and organize some exciting new events and to finalize the arrangements for events in the works.  This highly motivated team is always looking for new ideas and new members to the group.

If you are interested in joining this committee please contact Paulette Fisher, Social Committee Chair.

TRAVEL GROUP

Are you a Traveller or an Armchair Traveller?  Join Our Group to enjoy the sights of fellow Probus Members and share their experiences from around the World.  We meet the 4th Monday of each Month at 1:30 p.m. at Huntsville’s Canadian Legion.  There is a minimal charge of $2 per person to help cover the hall rental.  Any suggestions or ideas for possible Travel Presentations are always welcome, perhaps you or a friend have a fascinating excursion you wish to share.
