About Us

Launched in 2003, PROBUS Club of Muskoka North is Huntsville's second PROBUS Club.  It is a highly active club with over 200 members. Its aim is to provide an opportunity for retired or semi-retired people, both couples and singles, to socialize, participate in activities of all kinds and foster learning, fellowship, and community among active seniors and retirees.

Perhaps we seem happiest when our brains our challenged, our bodies are moving and our palates are experimenting. And we seek to do all of this with our friends in PROBUS.

The monthly meetings feature a keynote speaker and we’ve had some terrific ones over the years including Lloyd Roberston, Lt. Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell, retired U.N. Ambassador Robert Fowler, financial guru Patti Lovett Reid, author Terry Fallis and Huntsville’s own journalist/author, Roy MacGregor.

PROBUS Muskoka North organizes a wide array of clubs and interest groups to stimulate the brain, from duplicate bridge to book clubs.

To stimulate the body there are hiking, walking and kayak/canoe groups.

Every year there are special events including the semi annual car rally and the hotly contested trivia championship. We also organized excursions to Toronto shows and sporting events.

A successful PROBUS Club usually involves food and PROBUS Muskoka North has a wide array of gourmet dining clubs and plus regular visits to the best Muskoka restaurants which are expanding in number and quality.

Please explore this website where you will find details and schedules about all of these activities.

Our History

In June 2003, a small ad in The Huntsville Forester announced that the PROBUS Club of Huntsville would be sponsoring a new Club.  The resulting meeting attracted 50 people who registered, chose a name for the Club and decided that it would be open to both men and women.

Much work was done behind the scenes that summer, and by the inaugural meeting in September, 124 members had been registered and a Management Committee had been voted in.

In 2018 we celebrated our 15th Anniversary.  Our membership currently stands at just over 200 people so, if you're interested in checking us out, please feel free to contact us and come to a meeting as our guest.

Membership Information

Annual membership fees are very reasonable at $50.00. New members are required to pay an additional initiation fee of $35.00 to cover the cost of name tags and administration. Our membership year runs from September to August and members are asked to renew for the coming year by the end of July.

All Members receive a vibrant monthly newsletter providing member news, and outlining upcoming social events and interest group activities.
